Selection methodologyNow in its second year, the Forbes Best-in-State CPAs list was created exclusively by Forbes editorial staff in collaboration with market research firm Statista. Candidates were selected through a combination of industry insider interviews, outside nominations, editorial research, and input from an independent advisory board of accomplished CPAs.
Those nominated were evaluated using weighted criteria including professional achievements, experience, thought leadership, community involvement, regulatory compliance, and commitment to the profession — with an emphasis on recent accomplishments and professional impact. The list is entirely merit-based: candidates do not pay any fee to be considered.
The final list recognizes more than 1,000 of the top professionals across all 50 states, representing less than 0.5% of all licensed CPAs in most states.
